On 26 August 2015, Mr SHA Hailin, President of the Shanghai Chinese Friendship Association and his official delegation visited Confucius Institute at UNSW Australia to discuss international engagement with Fiona Docherty, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) for UNSW Australia. Mr Chris McKenna, Director, International Development and A/Prof Junfang XI, Chinese Director, Confucius Institute at UNSW Australia were also in attendance to welcome the official delegation to UNSW Australia and exchange gifts.

After being warmly welcomed to the University, the delegation participated in a roundtable discussion with international Chinese students and local students of Chinese Studies. This gave the delegation the opportunity to better understand the overall situation for Chinese students studying in Australia and education of Chinese language and culture at UNSW Australia, and also gave the students the opportunity to ask questions about current developments in Shanghai and China more generally. The roundtable was moderated by A/Prof Junfang XI and attended by LIU Wenwu, Vice-Consul, Education Office of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney. At the end of the discussion Mr SHA presented gifts unique only to Shanghai for all of the students.
