Returning for its fourth year, the 2017 Chinese Language Spectacular took place on Monday October 23 at Sydney Town Hall. Jointly organised by the Confucius Institute at UNSW Sydney and the Chinese Language Teachers Association of NSW, the evening featured the talents of Chinese language students across NSW. Approximately 800 students from 36 local schools and universities participated.

This year’s Chinese Language Spectacular once again celebrated the cultural bridges and educational ties connecting the two countries. 2017 also marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Australian-Chinese diplomatic relations.

The program included well-known Chinese and Australian songs, traditional dance, Chinese rap, poetry, sketches and music ensembles. Choirs sang traditional bush ballads such as “Click Go the Shears” and “Waltzing Matilda”, and Chinese pop classics including “Singing and Smiling” (歌声与微笑), “Friends” (朋友) and “The Same Song” (同一首歌). The night concluded with students giving a Chinese and English rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” (友谊地久天长 – Friendship Forever).
